Maria Carey

Maria Carey

Dr Maria Carey - Registered Osteopath

Maria Carey completed her Bachelor of Applied Science and Masters of Osteopathy in Sydney. She enjoys the common sense approach to health, that Osteopathy offers.  She worked for a number of years in NSW and WA before settling in 2009, on the Mornington Peninsula.

Maria has completed extensive postgraduate training in Osteopathy for Children and Obstetrics, and has been an active member of the Busselton Children's Clinic in WA and the Melbourne Children's Clinic.

During the 1990s whilst training and competing with Melbourne University Athletics Club as a middle distance runner, Maria was sent to an Osteopath for treatment of an unresolving injury. The treatment helped to quickly resolve her injury, where other approaches had failed.  This experience led her to pursue Osteopathy as a career.  She finds the underlying philosophy of Osteopathy to be a common-sense approach: that structure and function of the body are inter-related, and that treatment aims to support your own body to heal itself.

Maria has previously worked as a sprints and middle distance coach at Sydney University, and continues to take a strong interest in athletics and coaching.   Before gaining her Osteopathic qualifications,  Maria completed a B.A. in English Literature and Anthropology, and a Dip.Ed.  Maria worked as a high school teacher for nine years, as well as a variety of other work to support her through obtaining Osteopathic qualifications.
